Friday Business Meeting, (5/22/98):

---New Expenses: New Brochure, Web site, e-mail

---Scholarships cost to both publications and conference

---Scholarships--should we reduce them?

---We spent $6500 in scholarships this year. $25 K cost for meeting. There is no criteria for scholarship except financial commitment.

---Membership about the same; costs have increased.

---Membership Drive?

---Three journals? , We can't afford to do more than two journals a year.

---Do we want to continue to pay for advertising?

---Use of Journal as a place to advertise and get income

---Getting APA to pay to advertise in Journal(?)

---Marge Witty report: Is trying to get Journal information into data bases: Psych Info and Soc.Sci Index.

---Should we merge with British Association?

---At present rate, we’ll be in the red next year

---Is it a management issue?

---Each conference needs to make a minimum of $3000 profit to balance the budget.

---There were 95 registrants at this meeting.

---T-Shirts sold at meeting are to help offset the cost of brochures.

---Betsy Percoske to break, even --designer of brochure.

---Do we want to have the organization expand?

---Developing relationship with like-minded, authentic people/organizations;

---Connecting most important, meaning of organization to members; values.

---What we/you leave here with and bring back to your lives has an impact on others.

---Cost effectiveness also important

---One third of members are out of U.S., cannot pay membership fees at present

---Jon suggested a "comment box" in Renaissance by editor of Journal.

---Solicit articles in English from people in other countries.

---Many Europeans think that we don't take ourselves seriously. What are we committed to? Need to maintain and follow through on our commitments.

---Time of Annual Meeting: Interference with graduations; travel costs higher for National Holiday three day weekend. (If meeting is in Alabama next year, it will probably have to be in July after school is out)

---Discussion of change of weekend. Should it be a holiday weekend?

---Brainstorming: ways to increase revenue for ADPCA. Jere from San Diego has a list of these. The most popular seemed to be auctioning off items like "signed" T-shirts, and publications by important people like Bozarth, kisses from Ruth Sanford. (For a "business" section of the regular meeting, this was a blast.)

---Leather-bound book of personal letters of thanks for Ken Newton’s work on Renaissance, was brought by David Buckwalter for more additions, and will be presented by him to Ken; recognition of David Cain’s contributions not yet completed.

Meeting Sites:

1999: Louisiana

2000 Possibilities: New York, La Jolla CA, Tennessee, or Cleveland OH

2001: Manchester. England; Seems pretty definite

In 2000 there is DEFINITELY an international person-centered conference in Chicago (WAPCCP) in early September. Some concerns about how this will affect attendance at Annual Meeting; and how to schedule around it

---The Brochure was accepted.

---Money can come in Euro checks to Allan Turner for ADPCA and will be accepted by Robert Oppenheimer for BAPCA.

---The name of the organization was decided to remain ADPCA (Surprise?)

---Responses to Logo varied.

---It was voted to keep the name Renaissance.

---Policy Statement accepted: editor of Journal empowered to choose associate editors

---Nomination and unanimous election of Jo Cohen as Journal Editor.

---Marge Witty continuing as Associate Editor. (Jo and Marge have been acting Associate Editors.)

---Paula Bickham has been functioning as editor of poetry and special works.

---List being compiled of regular reviewers

---Include serious advertising .

---Marge will follow up on serious advertising. Will try to get meeting info into APA data base.

---Julia will not continue to pay for loan for computer. She wants to be reimbursed for the $300 she has paid and wants computer to be property of ADPCA.

---Postage for extra pages of Renaissance: if not, on what basis do we exclude submissions? offers to help on decisions re: inclusion: Audrey Levin, Jere Moorman, Ned Gaylin, Julia Rabin, Kathy Moon, David Buckwalter.

---Offer made by anonymous donor to cover postage for 2nd ounce: Renaissance accepts donations with no strings attached.

---Discussion of stipend for volunteers (Jody, Jo Cohen). We are postponing a decision about stipends until the next budget. The policy for stipends is the same for 1999. At the next meeting a decision will be made on establishing a stipend policy for the future. People serving the organization are free to apply for a scholarship and their needs take precedence.

---Julia will create a budget for the next meeting.

---There was general approval for the Boston Committee which worked so well together: Matt, Carole, Julia, and Deborah, plus many others.

---Ruth's tape: Memories of Carl, Ruth. Cost Contributing sponsors. Jan will arrange master copy. Ruth will review tape and possibly edit and title. Table for next year after costs are known as to who will distribute costs. Video copywrite by ADPCA.

---Brainstorming at regular Community Meeting about ideas to raise money. Jere seemed to be the one who was in charge of this and should be sending in a separate report. Non-profit status to be investigated by Jere.

---Authorize $500 for advertising. Call for papers and membership.

---Articles will be submitted to Renaissance about World Association and P.C. Reader.
